Close Quarters Battle – Handgun

More than 50% of all law enforcement deaths are caused by a felonious assault that happens 5 feet or closer to the victim officer. While there are no statistics kept on civilian gunfights, there is a long history of statistical data on law enforcement officer deadly force encounters. We have no reason to believe that the statistics would be any different for civilians. The Close Quarters Battle (CQB) – Handgun course is all about exposing the student to the deadly dynamics of a CQB fight involving lethal weapons.

Students will be taught how to defend the gun in a holster and in hand. Students will also be taught how to disarm an attacker at very close range. Jeff Westfall of Rising Phoenix Martial Arts Academy in Evansville, Indiana will teach the hand to hand techniques of this course. Jeff will also cover basic striking skills and some ground fighting techniques.

Guy Minnis, the Training Director for HARD TARGET will teach the close retention shooting techniques that will marry up with Jeff’s hand to hand combat techniques. When the fight goes down at “bad breath close” distances, this training may make the difference between losing the encounter or dominating the encounter.

Remember, there are no second place finishers in a fight to the death and at these kinds of distances; you will find yourself in a FIGHT TO THE DEATH!

This class is typically held on a Saturday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The student will be required to bring a handgun, holster, gun belt, and at least three magazines. 300 rounds of practice ammo will be needed along with eye protection, hearing protection, a baseball cap, high neck shirt, long pants, and gloves. It is also highly recommended that the student have knee pads.
