More than 50% of all law enforcement deaths are caused by a felonious assault that happens 5 feet or closer to the victim officer. While there are no statistics kept on civilian gunfights, there is a long history of statistical data on law enforcement officer deadly force encounters. We have no reason to believe that the statistics would be any different for civilians. The Close Quarters Battle (CQB) – Handgun course is all about exposing the student to the deadly dynamics of a CQB fight involving lethal weapons.
Lethal force encounters usually occur at very close distances, closer than you might imagine. When the bad guy attacks he will pick the time and the place of the attack. Felonious attacks are far more likely to occur when the lighting conditions are poor and the attacker feels that he has the advantage. When the assailant pulls a knife or a gun he will be close, very close. Do you think you will see your front sight before you pull the trigger? Or, do you think your eyes will be locked onto the man that is trying to kill you and the weapon he has in hand?
Do you know what you should do if you are attacked while inside of your car? The best defense is to drive away as quickly as possible, but what if that is not possible? What do you do then? This course of instruction teaches the student how to fight from inside the car and fight your way out of the car so that you can take cover from incoming rounds. The inside of a car is not where you want to be when the bullets are flying in your direction. The interior of a car does not offer much protection from incoming rounds.
